Chapter 13 was all about how to efficiently outline speeches. I think this was a really important chapter because outlining is something I want to become better at. The biggest takeaway was that when preparing for your speech, two outlines are ideal–one for writing down all your ideas and one for delivering your speech. The two delivery outlines include key-word and phrase outlines. I hope that by the end of the course I will be able to deliver speeches with key-word outlines, but for now, I am a lot more comfortable with phrase outlines. I also want to improve the organization of my body paragraphs; I think I am going to try to follow the outline given in this chapter to help organize Speech 2 for me. The most important thing about the given outline was the indentations in order to represent the “hierarchy.” Another idea I found interesting in Chapter 13 was to use larger fonts on the delivery outline– this makes it easier for the speaker to glance quickly at the outline.
