Chapter one introduced what public speaking is and why it is so important. The biggest takeaway from chapter one is that public speaking is very similar to everyday communication. Similarities include conversations (making sure you are understood and appropriate with the audience) and composition (knowing your audience and organizing a well thought out essay). Realizing that public speaking is just like having a conversation mixed with writing an essay puts my mind at ease because I know I am fully capable of doing both.
